Peace in the Midst of Trouble

A week ago a huge seven-story textile showroom totally burned down in Chennai.  The 24-story tower in North Kensington, London was destroyed after a fire rapidly spread from the second floor to the top of the 127-flat block killing 79 people. A Philippine-flagged container ship rammed into a US Navy ship early last Saturday morning causing serious damage and killing seven sailors. Also last Saturday a raging forest fire in central Portugal killed at least 62 people.  In the past month, there have been many killings and suicides in the State where we live. In Chennai alone two people die in road accidents every day on average.

In the midst of all these disasters, killings and calamities as mentioned above a true believer in Christ ought to be at rest and peace. There are three means to obtain peace in our inner lives. Let us name them

FRET NOT - BECAUSE GOD LOVES US

"We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love.  God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them." (I John 4:16)

FAINT NOT - BECAUSE GOD HOLDS US

"If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me." (Psalm 139:9-10).

FEAR NOT - BECAUSE GOD KEEPS US

"The Lord himself watches over you!  The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade." (Psalm 121:5).

"Fear not; you will no longer live in shame.  Don't be afraid; there is no more disgrace for you." (Isaiah 54:4)

PRAYER : Dear Lord, Let me be at peace and rest by not fretting, fainting and fearing for You are all sufficient. Amen.
