Where Your Treasure Is….

by Kim Turkington on July 6th

A recent discovery of buried treasure in a Hindu temple in the south of India is causing quite a stir.  The incredible stash of gold coins, gold statues, diamonds and precious stones is still being inventoried, but reports are that the final tally of this treasure’s value will easily be in the tens of billions of dollars.

Now the question becomes:  What’s to be done with all that wealth? More »

Ruthamma Is Rescued

by Kim Turkington on March 30th

Ruthamma is a young woman who lived in an unbearable situation before she came to the Phoebe Home for Girls.   She grew up in a poor Hindu family in Raichur, about 250 miles north of Bangalore.  Her parents worked as day laborers.  At some point Ruthamma’s mother heard the Gospel message and came to Christ. She also led the children to the Lord. This made Ruthamma’s father very angry, and he began to beat her mother.  Her father’s family even attempted to use witchcraft against the children and their mother. More »

Two Indias

by Kim Turkington on February 14th

In a culture as diverse as that of India, one could argue there are infinitely more than just two Indias.  But the very obvious divide between the tiny minority who have benefited from the country’s explosive economic boom and the vast majority who live in desperate poverty is painfully obvious to those who take the time to look.

What may not be obvious is why the compassion of the Body of Christ is needed so urgently in this land of software development and call centers, but this article from theGlobalist.com may help us understand the need:  Reconciling the Two Indias

Good News Helps; Bad News Still Hurts

by Kim Turkington on January 24th

The good news is that food prices in India aren’t going up as fast as they were a few weeks ago.

The bad news is prices of vegetables have skyrocketed in the past year, putting pressure on those living on the edge of survival and on those working to help them - including Fishhook’s ministry partners.

Even though news reports say food inflation is easing because the published weekly rate fell from over 18% to 15.5 $, the reality is that prices of many basic foods are dramatically higher then they were just a few months ago. More »

The Gospel for All Nations

by Kim Turkington on November 1st

Fishhook’s vision is for individuals and cultures in India and in America to be transformed by the hope and love of Jesus Christ.  As servants of the Gospel, we work to take the good news of His love to those who have never heard.

“And the gospel of the kingdom will be preached to the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14)

The good news about the living God will be delivered to every ethnic group on the planet before the ned of time.  The Lord will send His message of salvation into every people group for the redemption of those whose hearts are open to Him before He closes the door on opportunity.

How amazing that the Lord’s plan and purpose from the beginning was to proclaim salvation to every people group!

Let’s all ask ourselves:  What am I doing to help proclaim that good news to people who have never heard?

Herons, Goats, Fleas & Life

by Will Turkington on May 19th

We need each other on this journey of life.  During my last trip to India a heron, a goat and some fleas shed new light on this truth.

On our last morning together, Richard, David and I drove to “His Rest” retreat center for a time of conversation, meditation and prayer.  I had been looking forward to this time for over two weeks.  This incredibly scenic and quiet place is so unusual in the noisy, hectic and crowded places typical of India.   But sadly, as we approached the retreat center, we found that the last narrow section of road was impassable due to construction.  I was extremely disappointed. And a Little Child Shall Lead…

by Kim Turkington on May 13th

“I need a trash bag - a clean one!”  These were the words of a 7 year old Lexington, KY, boy named James when he heard about children in India who had no toys to play with.  James wanted to gather up the toys that he no longer used to help these children.  Not only do they lack toys, but these kids, who are being ministered to by the Samuel family in South India, are in families where one or both parents is living with or has died from AIDS.  Sometimes the children themselves are HIV positive. About 50% of all the hungry people of the world live in India, and the current economic recession will likely make the problem even worse.  To get the full details, read the whole story published by www.ndtv.com.
