Malar came to Living Hope in 1998 when she was 14. She told Ghuna that she was without parents and
destitute. She was from a village close to Tirunevelli and it turned out to be the village where Ghuna’s family was from. Ghuna says the village is small and chances are she is related to him. This can only happen in a country of 1.2 billion people. So, Malar became one of Ghuna’s first adoptions and came to know Christ and was baptised. Ghuna found he could give her responsibility and trust her with many jobs. Malar could get things done, but with a twinkle in her eye. After spending time with her in a few clinics I had sensed that she shared Ghuna’s intensity.
After she finished 12th Standard Ghuna sent Malar for medical training and then arranged a marriage with Malai, a Hindu from Sangupuram whom he had baptized into the Christian faith. As you might expect, she now runs one of Gospel Friend’s nearby permanent Medical Clinics. Malar was also helping to run the temporary clinic today but offered to take Ghuna and me to her house for coffee. By the way, David was still working inside, poor guy, while I’m still doing the relations thing. Malai was in the house and helped Malar fix Ghuna a lunch and drinks for both of us. She proudly showed me her book of wedding pictures from October 2006. This was quite an event held in the chapel at the Living Hope campus. It looked like a great time of celebration. We enjoyed sitting in their small house and having conversation. Ghuna mentioned that being married more than three years and not having children yet was becoming an embarrassment for them, her especially. I wondered out loud if Dr. David could maybe provide some insight to their problem. Since it was time to leave, Ghuna ask if I would pray for Malar and Malai. It was an honor to plead with the Lord that he would bless these two special people with the laughter from their children running through their house.
