Ananthi Jebasingh
Of India’s one billion in population, over 400 million are below the age of 14. Of these, 233 million do not attend school. Ananthi Jebasigh was compelled to share the love of Christ and start changing lives.
In the heart of South Delhi was the Alaknanda slum, where 20,000 people lived on less than six acres of land. There was no electricity, running water, or plumbing. A young slum boy ventured out of this slum and into the affluent neighborhood across the street. He knocked on Ananthi Jebasingh's door begging for food. Ananthi invited this boy into her home and began teaching him to read, to write. More importantly she shared the love of Jesus with him. Other children followed and soon over 100 were coming to 'school' in the Jebasingh's garage.

The children were so enthusiastic to learn they would come to Ananthi’s home at 7 a.m., even in the cold month of December. Once, 3 children sat in front of her house for hours just to be admitted in the “school”. They stood up only when she accepted them as students.
In March of 1991 Ananthi met with Delhi’s Slum Commissioner and he offered her two rooms in the Alaknanda Slum’s toilet complex. Two semi-permanent tents, made of plastic & iron grills, were used as classrooms. The stench and filth were almost unbearable, but despite the conditions the number of the children grew to 200. God continued to shower the school with His blessings and by 1998 there were 650 children and 18 teachers.
Today, there are four schools in four different areas in Delhi, Madanpur, Khadar, Dakshinpuri, Shanti Vihar and Kazipur, 3 tribal education centers in Gujarat and one in Jharkhand catering to over 1000 children. These children hear about the love of Jesus and are challenged to find God’s calling in their lives.
